Un regente y un jefe policiaco fueron despedidos hace un cuarto de siglo, en un ajuste de cuentas dentro del grupo gobernante, que sirvió también para poner límite a las expresiones ciudadanas, actitud que se consolidaría al comenzar 5 años después la embestida contra el diario Excélsior. El presidente Echeverría dirigió desde Los Pinos al grupo paramilitar que embistió a una manifestación el 10 de junio de 1971 y el mismo día de 1976 inició la agresión que terminó con la vida independiente de una cooperativa periodística.
